21st August 2022

We had some members on holiday and we had some with the Covid virus, (hope you are all better soon), so not as many shooters on Sunday. It was a pity as the weather was good, warm enough but not hot, a breeze, but not too much. There were a lot of high scores put in, the young 15 year old on his first try got 17 which was jolly good and he said he had really enjoyed it and hoped to come again. We would love to see him as we need some more young folk coming into shooting. It was the first time in several days that I had been outside, the result of too much "landscaping" in the garden. Too old for carrying gravel and moving and re-laying paving stones. I was cross with myself as I was still too stiff to shoot. Lifting a shotgun was too much. It gave me chance to watch others shoot and to sit and watch everyone clearing up afterwards though. Back to normal now. Coming up the track in the morning there were nine grouse in the field and I stopped to watch them but they just watched me. I suppose they had come off the moor during the shooting earlier in the month and never went back. Has anyone seen a curlew lately? They used to be a regular bird in the fields near the shoot but I have not seen one for over twelve months now. See you all in September and hope everyone is better by then.
