3rd November 2024.

What a day, we had eleven people who had never been or shot before.  They loved it and were enthusiastic about the member who gave them instruction and escorted them round the ground. I had to get another of our helpers to go with them to make sure everyone was safe.  We don’t charge for instruction so that was a bonus for them. We had forty nine people altogether. The weather was good, a bit chilly but hardly any wind.  We had a helicopter that came so low we had to stop shooting.  They can join us by all means but not from the sky !   The gas bottle ran out and I have no idea how to change it so had to wait until one of our lovely helpers came and did it by which time we had a mountain of washing up.  We were all amazed when one of the helpers who we didn’t think knew where the sink was or what it was for, came and did all the washing up.  Well done him and we didn’t even have to ask.  The John Midgley Cup was presented which was a great surprise to the winner and he was so pleased.  The prizes were given out from the last shoot, The Battle of Trafalgar, including the booby prize to the person with the lowest score.  A 1000 piece jigsaw of ships at the battle.  Fortunately she likes jigsaws.

We have three more shoots before Christmas but we decided that the first shoot in January we would have a raffle.  All the things you win in raffles or get at Christmas that you really don’t know what to do with or don’t want, bring for prizes as someone else might really want or love it.  I have several prizes already.  The proceeds will go to Manorlands, the local Sue Ryder Hospice.

I am going to try and choose some small trophies and medals for the year end as usual.  Difficult as there is some horrendous stuff out there.  I want to give them out on the last shoot before Christmas so you can show off to your visitors over the Christmas period.

Jonathan at The Skipton Gun Room has now retired so we wish him a relaxing time having more leisure time to follow the things he never had time for before.  He has always looked after us and made sure we got not only the things we wanted but often contributed prizes to our fund raising raffles. Thank you Jonathan.  His son has taken over so still trading and being helpful.
